My Lord,

"I have the honour to advise your Lordship that on the 17th July last nine Chinese were convicted in the Supreme Court of this Colony, of Piracy with violence and stabbing and Sentenced to death.
The Executive Council assembled on the 13th Instant, to take their case into consideration, and the Chief Justice, as the Judge presiding at the trial, having been, according to the Colonial Regulations, summoned to attend, it was unanimously resolved that the sentence be commuted to transportation for life.
2. Under ordinary circumstances, I should not have thought it necessary to trouble your Lordship on the occasion.
